Peter Traag's starting point when designing the Sponge sofa was the manufacturing process more than the product itself.
He came out with an interesting idea using a flexible mold and a hugely oversized fabric cover, the injected foam creates random wrinkles that strongly characterize the product. The sofa has no rigid structure and is the pressure of the foam inside the flexible mold to determine the final shape.
