The Basel chair is a great example of this spirit, a classic wooden chair as we may have seen many, but unique.
A second look into it reveals an unconventional use of materials; the seat and backrest are made of plastic, wisely plugged into the wood pieces with great attention to details. The choice of plastic supports the use of subtle ergonomic shapes and a very slim seat.
The result is both beautiful and intellectually elegant, as Magistretti would have put it.
