Very Normal Beauty

Normality and simplicity are the expressions of Jasper Morrison's understanding of design, he deliberately bases his projects in established and simple forms, concentrating on solving problems.

The Basel chair is a great example of this spirit, a classic wooden chair as we may have seen many, but unique. A second look into it reveals an unconventional use of materials; the seat and backrest are made of plastic, wisely plugged into the wood pieces with great attention to details. The choice of plastic supports the use of subtle ergonomic shapes and a very slim seat.
The result is both beautiful and intellectually elegant, as Magistretti would have put it.

  • Interview: Eugeni Quitllet
When we first saw his name close to that of Philippe Starck we googled, with no luck. There was no human trace of Eugeni Quitllet and we thought, for a brief moment, that he could be an invention, some sort of imaginary alter ego created by his famously provocative partner. But shortly after all this revealed to be a product of our unquiet imagination: he is for real, thank goodness.
