Can you picture Vitra, the leading furniture manufacturer, selling a chair that is the contrary of a chair? a chair with neither seat nor backrest? Vitra has decided to celebrate the very roots of seating proposing, or should we say, re-proposing an ancient way of seating used by the Avoreo indians of northern Paraguay.
No seat neither backrest as we were saying, but only a strap that tightens legs and back into a comfortable position when sitting on the floor. Ment for contemporary nomads and signed by chilean architect Alejandro Aravena, the strap is rolled and tighten by an elastic band and is available in 4 striking colours. You can get your own for about 90 EUR (120$) and by doing so help the Paraguayan Indian Communities, Vitra is indeed donating part of the proceeds to them, check out all the details and nice pictures from users at this site.
